Buying property in Copenhagen: what buyers should know

General information for buyers in Copenhagen. It is not legal or tax advice.

Updated October 2026

Who may buy

Denmark restricts the purchase of property by people who are not resident; some buyers need permission from the Danish authorities, and EU rules give exemptions in some cases. Check the current rules with the Danish authorities and your lawyer before you make an offer.

Your own lawyer

In Denmark the estate agent usually acts for the seller, so take your own lawyer (advokat) to read the purchase agreement and the property’s documents before you sign.
